13.04.19 The Caravana is extremely concerned to hear that human rights lawyer Juan Bautista Rivas Ramos was forced to leave Colombia for the United States of America due to continued threats and harassment, including surveillance, harassing phone calls, and death threats. The threats were allegedly connected to his petition before the Inter-American Commission of Human Rights in relation to the Colombian state’s failure to conduct a prompt, independent, impartial, and thorough investigation into the murder of his father, human rights lawyer Domingo José Rivas Coronado. Santiago Uribe Vélez, brother of former president and current senator Álvaro Uribe Vélez, stands accused of co-founding this paramilitary group.
