On 28 June, the Shadow Report of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) on Colombia was presented in Brussels, in whose elaboration Colombian Caravana participated, as we are members of the international platform OIDHACO (International Office for Human Rights – Action Colombia).

The UPR is a United Nations mechanism that periodically examines the human rights situation of the 193 Member States. In preparation for the session on Colombia on 7 November 2023, social organisations prepare “shadow reports” on the status of HRDs in Colombia to complement the information provided by states to the UPR Working Group.

The report contains an update on the human rights situation in Colombia between 2018 and 2023, with significant political changes. These years were also marked by the Covid-19 pandemic, which in Colombia – as globally – had repercussions on all aspects of life, society and also, in particular, on the human rights situation.

The topics in the shadow report were: Peace and Armed Conflict; Economic, social, and cultural rights; Human Rights Situation; Women’s Rights and Impunity.
